Our New Year's Adventure- Part 1

We had season passes to the San Diego Zoo and Wild Animal Park this year, so we decided to go one more time before the new year. Our original plan for the week was to go to the Zoo on Tue. before New Year's and then meet my sister and her family at the Wild Animal Park on Wed. That Monday we discovered that our passes expired the end of November, bummer! So we had to figure out what to do now. We decided to leave on Wed. so Mark didn't have to take another day off work, and do a Food Network tour. We love Diners, Drive-ins, and Dives, and The best Thing I Ever Ate, so we found some places in L.A. and San Diego, made a list and took off! This picture was an accident, but I like that it shows how rainy it was. It rained all the way down to San Diego. I'm glad that we weren't at the wild animal park today!
The boys in the car. They are always so good, they love to go places!

This is our second stop on our tour, our first stop was around the corner and was called Nickel Diner, they had very scrumptious maple glazed doughnuts topped with crumbled bacon, YUM! I forgot to take a picture of that place though.

MacArthur's Park was across the street from Langers. We had planned to get our food to go and eat at the park and let the kids play, but the weather had different plans for us, so we just ate in the restaurant.

This place was featured on The Best Thing I Ever Ate. They said to get the #19 pastrami sandwich. Mark and I shared one. It had tender pastrami, with coleslaw and Russian dressing on rye bread, so so good! The boys shared a bacon and tomato sandwich. they ate all of it so I'm guessing that was good too!

We went to the Citadel and did some shopping and let the kids run around a bit. It was still raining, but we had fun and found some great deals.
After shopping, we went to the oldest operating McDonald's. Yep, still raining!

They had a little museum here so we went to look around.

I LOVED the Mac Tonight commercials!

I wish the menu was still like this! I think I would tolerate McD's a lot more often!

Cool old sign

The billboard reminding us to "not let history pass us by"

After McDonalds, we headed to San Diego. We checked into our hotel, got cleaned up a bit and then headed to Ocean Beach for dinner at Hodad's. I think that I was looking forward to this place the most. The wait was like two hours for a table and we were too hungry to wait, so we just ordered it to go, Mark waited for our food which was still going to take 20-30 minutes while the boys and I went to the street fair right outside. they had tons of free samples so we just snacked our way around the booths as we waited for Mark.
We took our food and went to our friend Cari's house just down the street(yes, we brought her a hamburger too). We all had the best bacon cheese burgers and onion rings! We ate and visited while the boys watched Night At the Museum 2. Oh and we waited with her for the plumber who was suppose to be there at 2:00 and didn't show up until 8:00! We had a great time hanging out. Then Cari said that she has some free passes to Sea World that expires the end of the year and she's not going to use them, would we like them? YES!!!! So we are going to Sea World tomorrow, that was a very fun unexpected surprise!

Hodads, sorry it's blurry, rain, a moving car, and my camera isn't a good mix!
