La Purisima Mission

Sam's big 4th grade field trip this year was to La Purisima mission in Lompoc.  I really love this mission, the land here is beautiful, and they have so many activities for the kids to do.

The first thing Sam's group wanted to go was to hike up the hill to the big cross.  this is at the top.

learning about mission life.

making these communicator things, I forgot what they are called, but when you twirl them around, it makes a very cool, very loud noise and that how the people who lived here got other people's attention around the mission.

Adam and Sam trying their communicators out.

Sam learning to play a game Indian children played.

Adam isn't so sure about the animal skins!

My favorite part of the mission, learning how to make tortillas!
First they had to grind the corn

Then they had to make the dough and shape it into a tortilla.

then after they are cooked, you got to eat it!  very yummy!

Learning about the different jobs around the mission.

We found this mother owl sitting on her nest.  A docent said that she comes here every spring to lay her eggs.  the father lives in a nearby tree and brings her food.

I just love old buildings!

we had a very fun and informative day!
