San Juan Capistrano

Peter's soccer team made it to the semi finals for state cup. The tournament was this weekend in San Juan Capistrano. We wanted to leave Friday morning, but Sam had a play at school so we didn't leave town until around 3. On the freeway down, we saw this fun car. The boys thought it was the coolest car ever! Now they want a car that looks like an Xwing with R2 in the back!
We get down there, have dinner then check into our room and go to bed. We were all in bed by 10:00pm! I wake up at 1:00 in the morning to pouring rain and I woke up every hour after than to the rain pounding. We got up at 5 AM to get ready and have breakfast before we need to be at the fields at 7. Well, we are at Denny's at 6 and at 6:30 Mark gets an email saying the games are cancelled due to weather.
So now we have a whole day with nothing planned. I love things like this!

We first went to explore the San Juan Capistrano Mission.

This place is BEAUTIFUL! and we had perfect weather.

One building had an Lewis and Clark exhibit for the kids.

They got to build a log fort...
and play the wheel of misery!

This solider showed the boys his sword and then helped them make travel journals and gave them arrowheads.

This is the Old Stone Church. It was built in 1776. In 1812 an earthquake stuck during mass killing 40 people. This is all that is left of the church. It is still a very beautiful building.

These two bells were in the bell towers when the earthquake hit. Two 12 year old native boys were in the towers during the quake and died. the bells are named after them.

This church is the oldest building in California. People still come to worship on Sundays.

The inside is very ornate

After touring the mission, we went across the street and had lunch at Pedro's Tacos.
The boys liked their nachos!

Then we found a park and let the kids play for a bit.

Adam climbed to the top!

We found some trains!

The pretty clouds while driving home

I-5 was closed due to snow so we had to use the 14 through Teachapi. It was a long, but fun day!
