Iowa trip Sunday July 27 2014 Winter Quarters

Sunday morning we woke up in Ogallala NE.  We were so happy to see these beautiful clouds!  Bakersfield really has some of the most boring weather ever.  It's always sunny and hot or sunny and not as hot, so anything different than clear skies is really fun for us!
The boys played for a bit in the morning while we packed up then we hit the road again!

At the Disney Store in SLC, Sam bought this R2-D2.  We decided to have him be our co-pilot on this trip so he sat on the dash for the next two weeks.

North Platte Arch

Everything is so green here!

I took a picture of this water tower because it's such a novelty for us!

We stopped in Winter Quarters to see the temple and the visitor's center.  This place is so amazing. To see the place where so much suffering, sadness, and struggle took place was very humbling to us. and then to read about how faithful and full of hope and strong they remained was very awe inspiring.  This was such a great place to visit.

These next pictures are from my phone so they are a little out of order.

After we left Ogallala, about 45 minutes later we stopped in Hershey NE to get Hershey bars!

more pics of the the Winter Quarters temple from my phone.

I love how the real flowers match the stained glass windows.

These next pictures are at the cemetery next to the temple.  Again very humbling and not quite sad, but very serene and peaceful.  What an amazing legacy these saints gave!

We made it to Des Moines Iowa later that evening.  My parents went on to get the campsite set up while I went  to pick up  Mark and Peter who were staying at our friends house.  Our friends picked Mark and Peter up from the airport Saturday and let them stay with them until I arrived today.  Then we went back to the camp.
